Bishop Search: Oversight Committee Update

Main Content Inline

By Ms. Pamela RW Kandt (on behalf of the Oversight Committee). Email: PamelaGRW@aol.com

The Oversight Committee responsible for the search, election and transition for the next Bishop of Wyoming wishes to share with the entire diocese a prayer written especially for the process. Committee chaplain, the Rev. Kevin Jones of St. Peter’s in Sheridan, says he called upon several sources for inspiration in crafting a prayer for Wyoming’s bishop search:

Eternal God, our sovereign Creator, Redeemer and Guide,
in your mercy give your Church in the diocese of Wyoming
a shepherd after your own heart who will walk in your ways,
and with loving care watch over your people.
Grant us a leader with your vision and a teacher of your truth,
so your Church here may be built up and your name glorified;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Oversight Committee requests that all parishes incorporate the prayer into their daily and weekly prayer activities — from the Sunday ‘Prayers of the People’ to all study groups such as EfM to vestry and annual meetings. Prayers for the Search and Transition committees will be distributed at a later date.

Let us pray without ceasing and cover the bishop search from every corner of the state!

Ministry Development Region 4 Update

Main Content Inline

By the Rev Doug Wasinger. Email: doug@wyomingdiocese.org

Hello folks of Carbon and County. A big HOWDY for those you live beyond this rich part of Wyoming. A quick glimpse around the County looks like this; St. Paul in Dixon has decided to take an important step in their congregational life and will be starting a calling for a local priest. Karen Buckingham from St. Thomas in Rawlins is heading to the joint COM and Standing Committee meeting this weekend. The Morrison’s joined with the community at St. James in Encampment to say good-by to Ken Morrison and had a great party following the service at the Johnson’s house. I hope this letter finds you well.

I just talked to Norm Peterson (Regional Rep for region 4 and a member of the Oversight Committee for the next bishop of Wyoming) and he has a couple of busy weekends upcoming. More importantly he asked that I pass on this prayer for those who were called and accepted the invitation to serve on either the Search or Transition Committees. The members will names will be made publicly soon so keep an eye out for that.

Two people talked to me directly about the Muster/Mustard Seed Project. Funny thing about spell checks, it make sure that the spelling is correct, but it does not indicate the proper word …..or did it? Muster also means call up something, or gather people. So …. the Mustard Seed Project could also mean to call up passion and vision to gather the people for mission! What do you think? (I know nice SAVE!).

Last Monday I was a member of a group that Karen has gathered to work with her in formation to the priesthood. We are going through the book The Bible for Today’s Church from the original church teaching series. The conversation was informative and I think it is a good group. Like I referred earlier Karen will be meeting with the Standing Committee on Friday at 4pm. May your prayers be with her.

On Tuesday I did a rare thing. I took the day off. Wednesday I was on the weekly phone/web meeting with the Ministry Developers and then I traveled to Laramie to work on a personal project and made a couple of phone calls while I was there. Thursday I was scheduled to travel to Green River to work with the leadership at St. Johns in their Rooted In God process, but the planed session was postponed. So, I worked with Roy Walworth on another project with its efforts will be used for the work around Evangelism. We are attempting to record stories and then find a way (not hard I am sure) to share those stories with the greater church. Fun stuff.

Friday I worked on my sermon, pondered what to say at St. Paul’s in Dixon annual meeting, and other administrative stuff and that work rolled into Saturday as well.

Last Sunday was a full day. It started in Encampment where I arrived an half and hour early to help prepare for Ken Morrison’s Memorial service. St. James had the wonderful treat of music and I was working with the organist by helping her decipher the organ. Following the service Roxan Johnson had everybody over to her house for the reception and we had kids bursting from the seams of the house. I left Encampment to head over to St. Paul’s in Dixon. To start that early evening I met with two people who will be assisting me at the Lord’s Table and briefly talked about other Pastoral Ministry such as visiting the shut ins, those in a hospital, and taking communion to those who are unable to make it to church. Then that service St. Paul accepted their Mustard/Muster Seed Project funds and celebrated the gifts of mission. Following that service the Annual Meeting took place and the people who were in attendance were tuckered out by the time they got home (myself included).

Here is how the remainder of the week looks like. I am meeting with Joy Ford from St. Thomas in Rawlins to plan a memorial service for his formal wife on Monday afternoon. The service will be held this Saturday. Tuesday through Thursday I will be in Casper. The first part of my time there I will be meeting with the rectors from throughout the state and the send half of time together the Ministry Developers will be engaged in a group building exercise and gift assessment. Friday will be a mad dash to cross the “Ts” and dot the “I” before the weekend. Sunday I will be presiding at Fort Bridger and then Green River. What a full week!

Be kind to your mind!

Doug

HR Camp Foundation Program Committee

By Ms. Kay Flores. Email: kaydflores@gmail.com

When did you last climb a hill to worship God in the shadow of Laramie Peak? When did you last move from island to island in a team-building game? When were you last horseback riding, jumping into a swimming hole, or enjoying crafts at St. Tim's?

If you answered "last summer" or "this winter" to any or all of these questions, you probably are already a fan of Wyoming Wilderness Camp (HR Camp), and the HR Camp Foundation Program Committee wants to hear from you. If you answered "never", the HR Camp Foundation Program Committee really wants to hear from you.

HR Camp Foundation Program Committee, along with other committees, is working on long-range plans for Wyoming Wilderness Camp and other HR Camp Foundation programs. In the next few weeks, you'll be hearing about our Zoomerang electronic survey. You will be encouraged to submit your suggestions, and to share the link with as many people as possible.

We will be asking what your favorite camp activity is. We'll ask what activities we should continue, and what activities you dream about doing at Wyoming Wilderness Camp (HR Camp). We'll ask what would convince you to attend the campif you've never visited.

Blessings,

Kay Flores, Program Committee Chairman
